Adam D. Maarec is a member of Ballard Spahr’s Business and Finance Department and its Consumer Financial Services Group. He represents financial services companies of all sizes in complying with federal and state consumer finance laws, particularly those related to credit cards, other forms of open-end credit, e-commerce in mobile environments, affiliate partnership and marketing arrangements, data aggregation, information sharing, privacy, and data security.

He counsels clients on compliance with a broad range of consumer financial protection laws and their regulations, including those related to unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices (UDAAPs), open- and closed-end credit under TILA and Regulation Z, privacy under GLBA and Regulation P, credit reporting under FCRA and Regulation V, electronic contracting under E-SIGN, fair lending under ECOA and Regulation B, electronic fund transfers and prepaid cards under EFTA and Regulation E, marketing under CAN-SPAM and TCPA, and other privacy and data security statutes and regulations.

Adam provides strategic advice to companies on privacy and data security considerations in product development, marketing, and production. He works with companies using agile development processes and participates as a legal stakeholder in fast-paced product execution environments. Adam also counsels companies through state attorneys general and departments of consumer protection investigations, and advocates for clients during rulemaking processes.
